This website was conceived in 2005 when it became more and more apparent that the UK (particularly the South of England) was facing a future where water supplies couldn’t be guaranteed. We initially set up the site to rant on and encourage discussion about this issue.
As time has gone on we’ve seen lots of people come to the site looking for information more than wishing to discuss things directly. As such, in January 2007 we’ve decided to develop the site much further and hopefully provide many more resources and points of reference for people to find out about the hosepipe ban, water shortage and droughts in general.
So this is very much a work in progress and we thank visitors old and new for their continued support.

Jan 5th 2007, after several months of rain in SE england the ban is still in place. The reason is that the water companies need a hosepipe ban in order for them to be granted drought orders allowing them to take more water from rivers. To lift the ban would be to admit that the so called drought is over.

So why do they need to take more water from rivers? Maybe due to the fact they’re inefficient at fixing their leaky pipes?
