Don’t get the service – Don’t Pay?

The whole problem continues to get massive press coverage and this website is getting lots of visitors. As a result I’m getting some interesting emails!

I’ve had several from people who wish to remain anonymous relating to not paying their water bills if the service levels are not up to scratch. More precisely, people are suggesting that where a water company is making huge profits, losing vast amounts of water on a daily basis through leaks and imposing water restrictions on its customers – there’s a case for refusing to pay the bill. Various sources have said they’d be more than happy to become something similar to a council-tax martyr.

Well I say good luck to them. What I’m not sure about are the legal implications of such action. Would it work like council-tax evasion whereby you are jailed after refusing to pay, or for instance do they cut off your water?
