Following on from the UK’s wettest winter in recorded history, weather forecasters are predicting a summer heatwave and bookies have slashed their odds on a possible hosepipe ban.
The Met Office have said that temperatures will rise at the end of April and continue through summer. A spokesperson said “Latest predictions for UK mean temperature favour above-average temperatures for April-May-June as a whole.”
Widespread winter flooding has not stopped bookmakers dropping their odds on a hosepipe ban this year. Ladbrokes went from 8/1 to 4/1 and Paddy Power are only 2/1.
However, water companies are quick to pour cold water on forecasts of doom, with both Southern Water and Thames Water denying a hosepipe ban could happen this year.
A Southern Water spokeswoman said “Going by the current conditions, there will not be a hosepipe ban. At the moment our reservoirs are full and the water levels are at record high. We have a period over the autumn called the recharge season. That is when resources are all replenished and talks of hose bans are discussed.”
Thames Water agreed: “After the wettest winter on record, there is no chance of a hosepipe ban from us this summer.”

How wrong you were Joe!
I fear it’s going to piss down all summer. It always does after a nice April (according to today’s Times anyway).
