Following our post in August, rock legend Rod Stewart has finally admitted ignoring the hosepipe ban this summer in order to keep his personal football pitch in good shape.

Stewart said: “I’ve stopped playing as my knee’s been operated on. But I’ve kept my soccer pitch at home in England, despite it costing me a fortune. The groundsman is expensive. This summer has caused a lot of trouble as it didn’t rain for months.

“Every garden was burnt, every flower dried out. Water was rationed, watering was banned.

“Only my football pitch was a beautiful, lush green. Because, naturally, I continued to water it.”

Asked what he thought about a possible £1000 fine from his local water company he said “It was worth it”.

But I suppose if you can afford your own groundsman an extra grand here or there makes little difference.
